What is Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)?

Competitive integrated employment (CIE) means having a job in a community setting where people with and without disabilities work together. In these jobs, everyone gets paid at least the minimum wage and receives similar benefits, chances to get promoted, and fair treatment. CIE ensures that individuals with disabilities have the same opportunities as others in the workforce. To learn more about CIE, watch the 2 minute informative video below.

About us

The Idaho Competitive Integrated Employment (ICIE) Center, funded by the Idaho Pathways to Partnerships project, aims to improve the transition of children and youth with disabilities to competitive integrated employment (CIE). Housed at the University of Idaho’s Center on Disability and Human Development (CDHD), ICIE will develop a statewide support system for youth with disabilities aged 10-24, their families, and community partners. This initiative will enhance access to the knowledge and skills needed for effective transition planning, leading to better postsecondary outcomes in community engagement and CIE.
